Hi. I am Orked Alesha.
Bitched on: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 Time: 4/30/2008 12:56:00 AM
Hi. My name is Orked Alesha. I will be 4 months old this coming 7th of May.
This is me all dolled-up. I like to play dress up as you can see. And I also like to pose for pictures.
Other hobbies of mine include reading as you can see in my (awesome-est) uncle's previous entry.
I like to laugh and play. And I can get very noisy at times... I love to play in the tub and splash water around!
My favourite toy is (believe or not) any plastic bags. I like to make noise with them.
I really like to go out with my family and go for a ride in the car.
I like to stand up (with someone's support of course) or pretend that I am Supergirl flying around.
My least favourite thing to do is to put on a top or to have my face powdered. I get really really pissed off.
My favourite food is my left fist and sometimes when my left hand is occupied, my right fist.
Did I mention I like to blog too? Here's my blog.
Hehe... This is fun...
Ermm... Mummy... I'm falling!!!
Eww... Mummy I think I made a poo poo. Labels: baby Alesha
2 seconds.

Let's imagine that the entire duration of planet Earth's existence is crammed into one year. In other words, 4.54 billion years 'equates' to a year.
12,602,240 years would be reduced to a day. 525,740 years would tick in an hour. 8,752 years would be gone in just one minute. And 146 years would flash in a second.
So let's say the first of January is when the Earth is born and our present time is New Years' eve.
So for the first couple of months, there would be no signs of life. But only in March would one-celled microbial life exist. And they would be the only lifeforms to exist for roughly six more months (i.e. 2 billion years).
More complex lifeforms would only appear in August and September. And the larger multi-cellular organisms would make an appearance only in November.
Dinosaurs would make a brief appearance on the 13th of December (only to be extinct 13 days later). The first mammals appear on the 15th of December.
The genus Homo (our very first ancestors) appear on the 31st of December at 19:15.
The Homo sapiens, modern Man i.e. us, would only appear 11 minutes before midnight.
The first civilisation would begin one minute before midnight. One average human lifetime is less than half a second. That is how short our lives are. As fast as lightning.
And in that one minute when humans roam the Earth, the last two seconds are the industrial era.
"During that era, humans have used up and scattered a large proportion of the resources in the earth's crust, altered and exploited ecosystems to serve strictly human needs, held all other species at their mercy, and driven many species to extinction." (adapted from Milbrath, 1989, Envisioning a Sustainable Society: Learning Our Way Out)
Think about it, all it takes is 2 seconds for us to start destroying the Earth.
2 mere seconds.
Happy Earth Day everybody. And treat the Earth well.

I had a dream.
Bitched on: Friday, April 18, 2008 Time: 4/18/2008 10:29:00 PM
I was reading a friend's blog and he was blogging about dreams he had had. Peculiar dreams. Like end-of-the-world type.
And that made me remember the dream I had yesterday. The sleep leading to that dream wasn't really much, it was more like a nap (less than an hour or so) but I remember the dream so vividly.
It was a strange but happy dream. Almost all my friends were in it. And it was weird. Friends who I haven't seen for months, some for years even.
Good friends. Great friends I had lost touch with.
They were all living in this hostel and everyone knew everyone and I was there visiting. They brought me into their rooms, chatting and catching up with me.
The entire dream was so moving, I teared (read: sleep-cried). It was so strange...
Strange but happy.
I dunno. Maybe its to compensate for me not being able to see them before I go off.
Maybe...
Sigh... I just found out that I am the last one to get my VISA out of the whole population of students going for the programme.
The only other guy who had his VISA application held back got his yesterday.
I am the only one left.
Please God, lemme go.
My own little child prodigy.

Let the pictures speak for themselves. She is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo precious.
Speaking of child prodigies, here is my two cents worth on that Sufiah Yusof person: that is... probably the smartest thing she has ever done in her life.
It doesn't take a rocket scientist (in her case, a maths genius) to know that prostitutes earn more than mathematicians. Like duh...
Oh, and the thing about her being under some black magic spell? Come on, get real lah people.
She was obviously abused by her dad as a child (be it under tremendous pressure to perform or otherwise) and she is clearly rebelling in the worst imaginable way.
Black magic? So who is the insane one now?
Wondering.

My niece just turned 3 months old a few days back. 3 months of pure joy since she came into our world.
And so much has happened in those three months. She has cried her first tears, smiled her first smile and laughed her first laugh.
She is really smart, I can tell you that. She has made a number of little accomplishments; little feats we take for granted now. Like turning her little head herself, rolling on the bed on her own or cooing back at the person cooing over her. She knows her little routine now; when she should be sleeping, bathing or feeding.
3 months.
Now, that's a long time.
As long as my stay in the U.S. starting from next month. Woah... I would be gone for three months; I've never really thought about how long that actually is.
Well sure if you measure those three months like you normally would, according to the semester or by project datelines, that would be mere peanuts... but for my niece those three months would be a very long time - imagine the number of other accomplishments she could make.
And I won't be around to see them this time.
PS: My VISA is still being processed by the America embassy. Exactly one more month before I'm due to fly off and of course I'm worried shit. Please please please go well.
