What the F___K?

Unless you are living under some shell or in the US (ignoramus...), you must have heard about the tsunami in Indonesia.Time: 7/19/2006 09:25:00 PM This time, the West and Central Java provinces are the most badly hit. Again, sadly, there are casualties. Over 300 are reported dead, over 400 injured and hundreds more missing. And again, there was no early warning siren. Hasn't Indonesia woken up to the fact that tsunami threats are real and extremely devastating? Wasn't last year's boxing day tragedy a good enough catalyst to develop an early tsunami detection centre of some sort? To make matters worse, there was no warning given to the people of Java, despite Indonesia receiving bulletins from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre and Japan's Meteorolical Agency regarding the 7.7 magnitude quake that eventually resulted in the tsunami forming!!! And hear this out, straight from the Science and Technology Minister's mouth, he admitted, "we did not announce them." Why? "If it (the tsunami) did not occur what would have happened?" he said. Well, Mr Minister. Nothing. Nothing would have happened. No harm, rite? I mean, no lives would be lost. No damage to property. No families torn apart. No escalating death toll... No tsunami. Sure, businesses would be disrupted and people would be displaced. Displaced. But safe. And alive. Would it have killed anyone to warn the people of impending dangers? With all due respect sir, I think you are a complete ARSE to have come up with an excuse like that. The tsunami did occur. And things happened. Lives are lost. People are missing. And thousands are injured. You need a better spin doctor, Mr Minister. Better yet, a better excuse. Latest Update: Yet another earthquake shook the island today. And the Indonesian government issued a warning to its citizens about possible tsunamis. This despite the fact that Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre had issued a statement saying there would be no impending dangers from the quake as it was too deep. Fortunately, no tsunamis occured. My say on this? Too. Little. Too. Late. Labels: natural disasters, violence 0 comments |
