    Smile cause you mean it...
Bitched on: Thursday, May 11, 2006
    Time: 5/11/2006 07:59:00 PM

    Just a short short entry.
But a happy one, not like the past few.

Recently, most of my blog have been like me preaching to my readers about being good and nice and stuff.

I wanted to name this entry, 'smile like you mean it'...
    But it didn't sound sincere...

Well, a broad meaningful smile really made my day today.

From my ever-friendly and old (seriously more like ancient) neighbour of mine.

She must be over hundred from the way she look.

Her fair skin dotted with freckles and creased with wrinkles.
Her white thinning hair tied in a tight bun.
Her hard-to-miss hunch on her back.
    Her slow but steady walk.
    Her traditional samfoo...

She is just so old. She must have seen Singapore develop from what it was, through the war and independance, to what it has become.

She speaks a smattering of Malay, but mostly she converses in Teochew to me. I would just nod politely when she does.

But today I saw her again as I was leaving my house, I saw her at her house (she had her windows wide open). She waved and smiled at me.

I smiled back. A warm genuine smile...
Something I seldom did during my short short one week stint as a customer service officer...

I was smiling cause I meant it.
I was genuinely glad to see her.
I was sincerely being polite to her.

A far cry from what I felt during that particular week.

    That was it.
That's all I wanted to blog about...
    That smile made my day.
I was happy after that encounter.
    Extremely happy.
    'nuff said...

So smile cause you mean it.
