Happy Birthday Singapore!!!

Happy 41st Birthday!!!Time: 8/09/2006 12:15:00 AM Its the nation's independance day today! And I would be stuck in school for the whole day! Yay!!! Bleargh... I'm really not feeling the National Day 'spirit' sadly... I hardly see any of the republic's state flag hanging beneath the windows of the apartments in my neighbourhood. And I have to admit, my house is one of them. We can't find the flag anywhere and I have tried searching the entire house to no avail. But heck that. You don't need to wave a Singapore flag around to show how proud you are. Well, I'm damn proud to be Singaporean! My city state, my island home. From our humble fishing village background, to a world renowned cosmopolitan city. An independant, self-sufficient country (well, almost, but we are working on it) that can rival any other country in the world. Our technological and research sectors are as advanced as any 'first world' country, no doubt about that. We are a country so multi-ethnic, so multi-cultural and so multi-religious, its amazing how people of every colour can live alongside one another so harmoniously without any conflict whatsover. We should be the role model for the whole world to follow. We are really the ones who can call ourselves 'truly Asia'. Period. I read this once in a magazine before, "We are more likely to introduce ourselves as Singaporean first, before our ethnic group." Ditto. Lately, people have been asking if I'm local or not. I don't know why, maybe its my recent tan-less skin (skin doctor told me to avoid the sun), my dyed hair (some mix of brown and ash) that's so curly, its beginning to resemble a 'fro, or my coloured contacts (green cause I ran out of normal colourless dailies), and because of all that I look (gasp!!!) less local. Even old friends are suddenly interested about my parentage. I will proudly say that I'm local. And Malay (with a quater of Indian and Sri Lankan). Anyway, back to my plans later, though I would be in school the whole day, I would still try to catch the National Day parade, with my new university friends, in a lecture theatre (LT). We'll enjoy the parade and performances with takeaway pizzas and Mac Ds. Though we can't be there for the actual thing, we will bring the parade to us (sounds so cliche). Hmmm.... Maybe I'll bring sparklers for our 'fireworks'. lol. Ciao! Latest Update: Warning: Graphic content, not for the squeamish Remember the not-for-swallowing-pill (see previous entry)? Well, I 'tried' one just now (felt like I was wearing a tampon, of course I wouldn't have known how it feels like, or look like for that matter). And OMG!!! Its the size of a 5.56mm round!!!! (Yes, its that huge!) And it has to be refrigerated, so its icy cold!!!!! So freaking uncomfortable!!!! So the next time you see me, and I am acting cold towards you and behave like I have something up my butt, I might just do... lol. Labels: personal, school, Singapore stories 0 comments |
