    Quotes of 2006.

"It was an accident so stupid. It was like running with a pencil." - Terri Irwin, wife of the late Steve Irwin who died from a jab of a stingray through his heart on 4th September.

"First, just if I might correct a misperception, I don't think we ever said - at least I know I didn't say that there was a direct connection between September the 11th and Saddam Hussein." - US President George W. Bush after claiming in a 2003 speech that there was indeed a direct link between Saddam and 911 to justify the Iraq invasion. The death toll of Americans in Irag has now surpassed the death toll of the 911 attacks.

"The only way we can win is to leave before the job is done." -George W. Bush, in one of his many not-so-intelligent speeches. But you have to give it to the man, he does keep his promises.

"It was inexcusable. I apologise. But I can't regret what I did because it would mean that he was right to say all that."

"I am a man and some words are harder to hear than actions. I would rather have taken a blow to the face than hear that." - both quoted from Zinedine Zidane, who was 'apologising' for his headbutt on Italian defender Marco Materazzi in the World Cup final.

    Do it, the Zidane way.

You have a problem with someone?
You handle it, the Zidane way.
    Like these people in France.

Of course, to many of his devoted fans, this is hardly a joke but people, lighten up.

While I agree that his actions were wrong (his heatbutt and subsequent redcard was a shameful end and disgraceful blemish on his illustrious career as an exceptional player), I applaud him.

According to reports (and Zizou himself), Marco Materazzi, apparently insulted his mother and sister.
    Hence the headbutt.
Poor Zizou was just defending his family's honour.
    Now that's important.
Even his mother was beaming with pride, saying, "I have nothing but contempt for Materazzi and, if what he said was true, then I want his b*lls on a platter."
One will shudder to think where the old lady would headbutt Materazzi if she were the one on the pitch.

Zizou in a way has risen himself as a hero out of this mess.
I'm not implying his actions were 100% justifiable.
I mean he could have won the World Cup for France had it not been for him being sent off.
But his true supporters are backing him up.
Even the president of France pardoned him.

So to those who say he should surrender his Golden Ball award, I say forgive and forget, he's only human.
He's not a soccer God, he has issues, everyone does.

Anyway, for the really curious, here's a clip from BBC where they have hired a lip-reader (is there such an occupation?) to lip read the conversation (which was in Italian).

Oh, its not the first time Zidane headbutt-ed another player.

So that explains his balding head.
    haha...

    World Cup
Bitched on: Monday, July 10, 2006
    Time: 7/10/2006 12:40:00 AM

Its 12.30am in Singapore as I'm blogging this.
An hour away from the final football match everyone on the face of this globe will be watching.
The finals of the World Cup between Italy and France.

And I am seriously fighting the Snooze Monster.
Tried every possible crap to stay awake (minus drinking coffee cause I can't drink caffeine).

    Must stay awake...
    Must stay awake...
    Must watch the match...

My friend suggested I blogged so here I am.

    Yawn...

Why can't they have it on this side of the world like last time?
I remembered four years ago I was with my equally-clueless-about-football-unless-its-the-World-Cup friend at the Padang (there was a huge TV monitor showing the finals between Germany and Brazil, it had a picnic-ky atmosphere)

And almost everyone there was wearing green and yellow.
I think in a 10 metre radius, I was the only idiot screaming my lungs out for Germany (my friend was also a Brazil 'fan', he was just backing the favourites lah)

Of course Brazil won that year.

I had really wanted the two rivals to meet again in this year's World Cup finals.
And I had hoped things would go my favour but alas, Brazil had to lose to France and Germany to Italy.

    Dammit.

    Germany!!!
Never mind, at least you are third.
I can't say the same for Brazil.
    Hah!

    10 minutes to go.

    Hopefully its an exciting match.
Not like the Germany VS Italy one.
It was freaking dull until the last minute (literally).
After that, I was pulling out my hair.

    Highlights of the painful match.

    Got to go now!

    Yawn...
For the love of God, stay awake Shazi.... zzzzzzzzzz.......

    Latest Update:
    Italy won.
    What's wrong with me?
My predictions have been wrong since day 1.

To those who bet, always always bet against my predictions...

But I do admit Italy was the slightly better (just slightly, they were almost equally good) team.
And their defense is like impenetrable!

France must have lost their concentration when Zinadine was given the red card.
    Everything went downhill from there.
Anyway, that head butt was so uncalled for.
    What's the deal?

Even if he was provoked, he should have bit his lips and bear with it.
I mean, his grand exit from professional football was so disgraceful!

Can you imagine if France had won?
He wouldn't even be allowed out of the changing room to carry the World Cup trophy!

    See here for more details.

Latest Update: Here is the clip with the highlights of the match. Watch it! Plus Zidane's red card too.

    Cya all.

    IDAKI 2006

    I'm back!!!!

    Glad to be home!!!

And also glad I went to the camp.
    Made some new friends.
Met my old friends (those I didn't think I would see again, ever).
And met my close friends who were going to other camps too.

I wouldn't say I had the time of my life lah.
Cause I had had other camps which were really rocking.

But it tops the most tiring camp I have ever been too.

Lack of sleep, games in the morning, afternoon and night, plus the fact its 4 days and 4 nights were extremely draining.
Add a not-so-enthusiastic orientation group (OG) and we have a recipe for a erm... lethargic cheering disaster.

We really had limited cheers. In fact, we had only two pathetic ones. We had to keep reusing them. But we did make a few up along the way...

Nevertheless, a mother of all miracles happened at the end of the camp.
    My OG won best OG!

    Go figure...

I'm still figuring that one out.

    Haha.

But I have to admit we did bond as an OG over countless games of 'doobi doobi doob doob'.
Its a stupid game. But addictive.
    Kinda hard to explain here.
But it looks something like this.

Other than that we really rocked with our trademark, 'hai tai ah hai tai'.
Again, another stupid game which we modified into a cheer.

We also bonded over comparing our bruises, cuts and 'o-che'.
    Haha...
Every single one of us had some sort of injury.
At the end of the camp, we had to be careful not to accidentally bump into the other person for fear of touching his or her bruises.
    Lol...

Of course, those who know me will know that I, without fail, will get myself into some sort of injury or some loser-moments.
Not to disappoint any of you.
    I did.

    I fell into a drain.
    It was traumatic, ok?
    I was blindfolded, some more.

I slipped down a slope, into the drain and when I managed to pull myself out, I rolled down another slope again.

Wah. Sounds like really serious hor? But when I took off my blindfold, the scene of the accident was barely a metre long...

I was blindfolded because it was part of 'Trust Walk' where you are lead around blindfolded by a senior around the school, meeting 'obstacles' along the way.
I think I might have trusted him too much. Haha...

So in the end, I got bruises and scrapes on my right shin, knee and left inner thigh.
And my berms were torn!!! Somewhere so strategically sexy.
And there was a huge red bruise on my back.

To make it worst, I missed the highlight of the camp!
    The 'Fright Night'!
The studio was converted into a really spooky haunted room and then the freshies were taken to another abandoned house which had been converted into a haunted house.
My friends told me that the 'gui' or 'ghosts' were really convincing.
    Sigh...
    I missed that. Dammit.

    Oh.
And I had to have sore eyes on the day we went to Sentosa.
    So suay...
    dammit...

Note: I reread what I have written in this blog and it makes no sense.

    heck.

Here are some photos to summarize the whole camp.
A picture (or some pictures) paints a thousand words...

In West Coast (Day 2), my OG, Barragan.

In Sentosa (Day 3) with 'sister' OG, Hydra. Together we are Hygan!

In Sentosa again (me taking the picture).

Our last day, doing our 'hai tai ah hai tai'.

(this was where were we slept for the past 3 nights, yes, on the floor)

    See here for more pictures.

    Go BARAGGAN (or izzit BARRAGAN?)!!!!!!!!!!

Erm... I'm still trying to figure out why we won...

    WorldCup Update:

Oh. I was watching the semi-finals Germany VS Italy in school.
    NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    GERMANY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    ARGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
