Estatic about Aesthetic Surgery
Bitched on: Friday, February 10, 2006 Time: 2/10/2006 07:26:00 PM
I have had my first surgery yesterday. I will be removing my stitches after a few days. And I will have two more surgeries in the next couple of weeks before they are completely gone.
Before you lunge for the telephone to call me up and ask me how I am doing and which ward I am in, relaks..chill... I was just talking about my four wisdom teeth and their extraction surgeries.
And no the wisdom teeth in my mouth were not life-threatening like cancer or anything (but they will lead to teeth decay and eventually as you get older, a disfigured face with no teeth... euww...).
So I suppose the surgery is more of the aesthetic kind. In other words, cosmetic surgery... or (gasp) in other words plastic surgery (erm...). But I mean the extraction of the wisdom teeth will not alter my looks what so ever (I am already good looking mah..).
But I did have 'looks-altering' surgery back in JC. Well, as some of you might recall, I had a surgery to remove this ugly growth on my lower lip (the size of a five-cent coin) that suddenly popped out all of the sudden.
But back to the topic that I really wanted to talk about.
Aesthetic surgery.
It has become so common to hear stories of breast augmentation and face lifts in Hollywood and the Western countries but what about in Singapore? Will it ever become the norm here? Already in other Asian countries like Korea (South not the North, like duh..) it seems normal to have surgeries to have double eyelids and much much more (has anyone seen Harisu, THE Harisu, va-va-voom Harisu?).
Well, I did have friends who went for surgeries to have double eyelids. How about breast augmentation? Anyone out there I know had one (or two, hehe..)? I wanna feel, erm... I mean, I wanna know...
My religion forbids having any plastic surgery done on yourself unless the 'defect' is life threatening like skin grafting for third degree burns or surgery to remove a second deformed genital (sheesh..).
However, I do wonder if I could have an aesthetic surgery, what would it be?
Well, after looking at myself in the mirror for so long, I would like to make my nose smaller. You know how those people in Exreme Makeover actually do a 'nose job' (oei...don't think dirty here)? They use a hammer to break your nose into pieces and then put a cast to re-shape the nose (bring on the sledge hammer)... On second thought I will just stick to what God has given me when I was born (but of course, my nose was way smaller back then, it just grew and grew to the monster it is today)...sigh...
But what I really want is to have a chemical peel done on my skin to remove my acne scars... sigh... Melt my face right off.
Or to make myself taller. They say they break the bones of your legs, stretch them, put metal screws in the legs and eventually the bones will grow to re-attach. Or they could also dislocate your leg bones from the sockets of your pelvis to re-locate them lower... Ouch..
But whatever it is, Singapore has yet to accept the issue about having beautification surgery done to oneself. Just take a look at all the hoohah surrounding Miss Dawn Yeo (THE Dawn Yeo, va-va-voom Dawn Yeo... drools...) and her infamous plastic surgery accusations. I am not implying that she did have work done on her but look at the fury that erupted when people (especially jealous ugly ones... kidding) denounced her as "fake inside, fake outside" and post her unglamorous 'post surgery' pictures online. I smell jealousy...
Then, there were issues about certain Mediacorp artistes and their rumoured enlargements. I mean what is the big deal (pardon the pun) if people deny having work done? The bigger deal (i'm enjoying this pun) should be how can we allow the press to put these people under the magnifying glass and probe into their affairs? They are entitled to their own personal lives. But who can blame them for being ashamed about being labelled 'fake beauties'? I mean if I had the moolah and I did have a surgery, I would flaunt it... Rite...
That would be so shallow and narcissistic.
But what really irk me is that we are defining beauty with Western standards. Why are we comparing oranges with apples? Why do we see fair white skin, sharp nose, straight hair, coloured eyes and coloured hair beautiful? Then why are we dissatisfied with slit eyes, brown or dark skin, button noses, curly hair or black eyes and hair? Read this blog entry of the one and only Miss Xialanxue (she was obviously taking a dig at our Miss Dawn Yeo, who was her 'best friend' turned punching bag after the accusations started flying about). xlx said, "There has been a rising trend in the media over the past couple of years to cast and star and promote eurasians and with that, the emergence of coloured contacts, hair dyes and what not.... "Why can't we be comfortable with our own unique heritage?"."
Exactly. So be proud of who you are, not what you are. I am proud to be a Malay (who uses whitening cleanser, wears green coloured contact lenses and dreams of rebonding and dying my locks).
Haha... Kidding.
This blogger is not accusing and has not accused Miss Dawn Yeo of having gone through cosmetic surgery. Even if she did, shame on you for caring. This blogger should not be accused of stalking her because this blogger 'stumbled' on her Friendster... And has loads of her pix on his phone. And bought two issues of the FHM with her on the cover. But still doesn't know where she lives... Kidding... Latest Update in Estatic about Aesthetic Surgery: Revisited. Labels: Dawn Yang
